Hello! I'm a science writer & audio producer

I’m an independent science and environmental journalist and audio producer based in the Midwest. As a freelancer, I've written news and feature stories for National Geographic, The Atlantic, The New York Times, Scientific American, Smithsonian, Science, Hakai, Undark and other outlets. I'm also an audio producer and and writer for NASA’s flagship agency podcast, Curious Universe.

I write a semi-regular Substack newsletter, The Science Reporter's Cut, that pulls back the curtain on science journalism and shares tidbits that don't make it into my stories. 

I'm always available for freelance assignments, especially covering the Earth sciences, climate change, and the history and culture of science and its intersection with society.
